P&M Aviation USA

We are very excited to announce that both models of P&M Aviation, LTD aircrafts, the Quik and the Quik GT450, have been awarded S-LSA certification in the USA.

The certification process was uneventful in part for the diligent work of my partner John Keith, who worked closely with FAA Light-Sport Aviation division to ensure that the tons of forms and requirements were met on time, our test pilot Chuck Goodrum that set all business aside to help us meet our deadlines and our DAR Steve Walton, that made himself available for inspection in a very busy time prior to Sun-N-Fun.

The process was perhaps further simplified by the fact that these fine aircraft are already fully certified by the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) and BMAA (British Microlight Aircraft Association) in UK; and already compliant with ASTM standards, and the diligent work of P&M Aviation LTD, Roger Pattrick and Jim Cunliffe, that expedited all our requests - as if they did not have any other distributors in the world to deal with.

We are very proud to bring these fine aircraft back to the USA. As we finally had the opportunity to closely evaluate both models, they completely surpassed all our expectations.

We were already very familiar with the Pegasus Aviation and Mainair Sport trikes, but we were amazed once again at the quality of workmanship of these new P&M Aviation trikes.

Both of these trikes are an overall refined and improved version of an already very successful aircraft.

The most immediate features that you may notice are perhaps the beautiful glass work, comfortable seating, large touring windshield and slick overall design. They look fast even when they are just seating idle on the tarmac.

The wing setup is very easy and a 3 way pulley makes it very easy to set the cross-bar with just one hand. The mast folds easily and the gas strut in the main post helps to raise/lower the wing.

The wing is beautifully crafted. I'm glad to find that the zippered pocket to inspect the crossbar / leading edge connection (used in the Pegasus Q2 wing) is still there.

The instrument panel is very nicely laid out and it retains the large compass typical of the Pegasus trikes. Hydraulic brakes and parking brakes are standard. Our trikes all came with the Rotax 912S (100hp) engines. New for 2007 a dual stainless steel exhaust system and fitted with 3-blade warp drive props.

The engine cover leaves plenty of room for inspection and it is easily removed. They have large aerodynamic wheel spats that match the large fin covering the main mast.

All trikes came standard with the pre-installed power lead for the Lynx powered radio/headset interface as well as the Lynx antenna.

The configuration for the ignition switches, hand throttle and choke are similar to the ones found in the Pegasus Quantum but added the electric trim switch by the hand throttle, and also a microswitch that won't allow the engine to start unless the hand throttle is fully closed.

I like very much the ground handling and taxing with the smaller wings and precise feel of the hydraulic brakes. The control bar nicely positioned and lower than in most trikes that I have flown.

Flying the trike ... well, that is a story on it's own!

Please stop-by and check them out at Sun-N-Fun in Lakeland, FL.We will have both S-LSA models available for display. Sun 'n Fun.
